Veterans Day 2024—Paying Tribute to Our Veterans This November 11

12:00am & Tips and Advice

Freedom, liberty, and justice for all. These are the principles that America was founded on that our veterans have fought so valiantly to protect.

Acorn Stairlifts wants to acknowledge all of the brave men and women who have served our country this Veterans Day. Thank you for your service and dedication to protecting the United States.

What is Veterans Day, and When Is It?

Veterans Day takes place on November 11 every year and honors all American veterans from all wars.

The reason behind the selection of this specific date goes back to World War I. It was during the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month that the Allied forces and Germany declared an armistice, or a temporary peace agreement, during World War 1.

This day became known as Armistice Day, a day that “should be commemorated with thanksgiving and prayer and exercises designed to perpetuate peace through good will and mutual understanding between nations.”

Over the next several decades, Armistice Day slowly evolved to become known as the Veterans Day we observe today, honoring all Americans that served during all of the wars.

Ways That We Can Thank Our Veterans for Their Service

Help Build a Home for Severely Injured Veterans

For veterans that have been severely injured, life never truly goes back to the way it was before. However, you can help a Veteran adapt to their new lifestyle by providing them with a home that accommodates their disabilities and limitations.

Building Homes for Heroes, Homes for Our Troops, and the Fisher House Foundation are just three of the many organizations that help provide adapted homes to severely injured Veterans, helping them regain their independence and freedom in their homes, much like we strive to do here at Acorn Stairlifts.

Provide Mental Health Resources to Veterans Suffering From PTSD

Unfortunately, a lot of Veterans suffer from PTSD after being on the battlefield. PTSD has a significant impact on one’s quality of life, causing distress and disruption not only to the Veterans themselves, but to their loved ones.

For this reason, there are an abundance of resources out there for veterans suffering from PTSD to receive the help they require.

Donate Money to Veteran Organizations

Donating money to reputable Veteran organizations that use their money in the right way is an impactful way to show your support and appreciation for their service.

Look into the many charities whose missions are to aid our Veterans and choose your favorite ones to donate to.

Help the Homeless Veterans

No person that protected our homeland should have no home to return to. You can help homeless Veterans by donating to charities, reaching out to organizations that can provide them with housing, or even just personally providing them with a hearty meal to fill their empty stomachs.

Send a Letter or Care Package to a Veteran

From Holidays for Heroes to Operation Gratitude, there are several organizations that work to provide Veterans with handwritten letters and care packages that remind them of how grateful we are for their bravery and comradery.

Thank the Veterans You Know and Love in Your Life

Sometimes a simple “thank you” can warm a Veteran’s heart and make them feel valued and appreciated. Take the time to thank all of the Veterans that you know and love in your life who have served our country and protected you and the lives of all Americans.

They are the ones who have fought to allow us to enjoy the freedoms and fortunate lives that we lead here in the United States of America.
