According to arthritis.org, if you are experiencing arthritic pain, try aromatherapy. “Aromas can heal by enhancing our memory and changing emotions that affect the body’s stress response” says Esther Sternberg, MD, a rheumatologist. Aromatherapy is good for pain, anxiety, rejuvenation and many others.
Dr. Oz, a cardiovascular surgeon, who studied aromatherapy to help find another method to reduce anxiety in heart patients, suggests aromatherapy if you experience any pain or relaxation issues. He encourages using these scents:
1. Vanilla: a study from the Columbia University Medical Center showed that those who smelled vanilla before taking a stress test had a more stable heart rate and blood pressure level compared to those who did not smell any vanilla.
2. Peppermint, jasmine and citrus: these scents help you feel more awake and alert.
Not only do essential oils help, certain fragrant plants like basil and rosemary can provide positive and pleasant healing. Below are 4 plants that help your overall health and well being:
1. Basil: if you’re feeling like you can’t concentrate, try using basil. Basil can help with concentration and headaches. Add a few leaves into your meal if you need a boost.
2. Lavender: this plant helps with sleep and feeling calm. If you can’t seem to get a good night’s sleep, place lavender in a vase on your nightstand.
3. Rosemary: over time rosemary has shown to help reduce stress. Adding a few sprigs onto potatoes or include some in your flower arrangements if you’re feeling stressed.
4. Mint: smelling peppermint can wake you up and is encouraged to drink mint-infused tea to help kick tiredness.
Please always consult your doctor first before making any changes to your diet/lifestyle.
